Mission and Identity Council

The AJCU Mission and Identity Council is composed of colleagues who are responsible for advancing Jesuit, Catholic mission and identity at the 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States and Belize. It is coordinated through AJCU under the advisement of a planning group drawn from its membership. Regular, online meetings of the Council take place for the purpose of “deep dives” on selected topics and to strengthen collaborative relationships among mission colleagues.

The Council’s annual meeting typically occurs in the fall and includes discussions on current mission issues, the exchange of best practices, and work on common projects. Recent meetings have addressed such topics as (a) colleague formation; (b) the Mission Priority Examen (MPE); (c) the appointment, roles, and responsibilities of chief mission officers; (d) coordinating the work of mission offices with colleagues in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI); and (e) trustee development for mission governance.

As part of the Mission and Identity Council, the chief mission officers of all AJCU member institutions serve, as needed, in an advisory capacity to the AJCU Board of Directors.
