The AJCU Integral Ecology Network advances members’ work toward Pope Francis’ integral ecology and allows for more connection to the International Association of Jesuit Universities (IAJU). Integral ecology includes environmental justice, economic justice, and an application of the natural sciences. Members are inspired by the recent impetus from Pope Francis and reiteration from Jesuit Superior General, Rev. Arturo Sosa, S.J., on ecology and environmental justice.
The Network seeks to build on a history of conferences focused on climate change and justice held at Loyola University Chicago, Seattle University and Santa Clara University. Members already conduct research and are teaching and engaging with partners in these areas. This group strengthens collective action in a supportive community.
Objectives
- Foster interpersonal and institutional relationships to define and achieve shared goals.
- Strengthen research, education and community engagement through collective action to advance environmental and economic justice.
- Building a regional North American network among AJCU member institutions that advances environmental and economic justice and connects with the IAJU network.
Members of this community of practice will include university faculty, administrators and staff.
