Campus Ministry Directors

Mission Statement

The purpose of this Network shall be: to promote the work of campus ministry, especially within AJCU institutions; to provide AJCU campus ministry leaders with a forum for discussion and the exchange of ideas and information pertaining to campus ministry; and to foster the mutual professional support of its members and their teams.

The AJCU Network of Campus Ministry Directors began informally in the 1970s, but the first by-laws were established in 1989. The directors of the campus ministry programs at Jesuit colleges and universities meet at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Phoenix, AZ every other spring. In the other years, the directors meet at a site where they can all visit the campus of a Jesuit college or university.

In the years that the directors meet at AJCU institutions, they spend time meeting university faculty, staff, and campus ministry personnel. A theme or topic is picked that is particularly relevant to those host schools with experts providing the directors with additional input. When the directors meet at the Franciscan Renewal Center, outside experts are brought in to help educate them on topics that are particularly relevant. Time is also spent talking about current “hot topics” on Jesuit campuses.

Through a concerted effort to more fully utilize the AJCU Campus Ministry Directors’ listserv, the CM offices have been able to communicate quickly and gather timely data in the areas of CM staffing ratios and budgets; salary information; retreat offerings and subsidies; service immersion opportunities; liturgy and music; LGBTQ student organizations; and best practices.
