Dr. Michelle Maldonado is Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Scranton. She is serving as Interim Provost in the 2022-2023 academic year. Prior to her arrival at Scranton, she was Professor of Religious Studies, Assistant Provost of Undergraduate Education, and Executive Director of the Office of Academic Enhancement at the University of Miami. She received her Ph.D. in Systematic and Philosophical Theology at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California in 2001. She is the author of eight books including Afro-Cuban Theology: Religion, Race, Culture and Identity (University Press of Florida, 2006) Shopping: Christian Explorations of Daily Living (Fortress Press, 2010), and A Critical Introduction to Religion in the Americas: Bridging the Liberation Theology and Religious Studies Divide. (NYU Press, 2014).
