Dr. Julia Vargas is the Director for the Center for Service Learning at Rockhurst University. In this position, she connects Rockhurst faculty and students to the community through service-learning courses and community service programs. Prior to joining Rockhurst, Julia directed leadership and youth development programs for nonprofit organizations including the Missouri Community Action Network, National Conference for Community and Justice of Greater Kansas City, and the LULAC National Educational Service Centers (LNESC).
Julia continues to support the nonprofit sector by serving as a board member for the Guadalupe Center Schools, Missouri Connections for Health and Revolución Educativa (RevEd). She has supported Jesuit work being serving on the National Planning Committee for the Commitment to Justice in Jesuit Higher Education Conference.
When she is not working or serving community groups, Julia enjoys musical theater, reading, and puzzles. She also enjoys being “Tia” to 4 nephews and 2 nieces.
