I was born and raised in Covington, LA. The only child in my family, I grew up intensely engaged with stories and imagination. After graduating from high school, I went to college for a degree in mathematics. While I did initially think that I wanted to be a mathematician, a lack of self-confidence and burnout led to me taking time off of school after I finished my undergraduate degree.
It was at this time that I met my wife, Gina, got married, and started teaching for the first time. After a few years, I discerned that I wanted to go back to school and began pursuing my Ph.D. in mathematics. During graduate school, we had our daughter, Gianna. After completing the doctoral program, I spent a year as a data analyst before discerning that my true calling was in teaching and mentoring students. Since then I’ve been at Spring Hill college.
