Michele Matherly has served as Associate Dean of the Williams College of Business at Xavier University since 2016. Prior to that, she was Chair of the Department of Accountancy. Michele joined Xavier in 2008 as an Associate Professor of Accountancy, and later earned tenure and then promotion to Professor of Accountancy. She earned her undergraduate and MBA degrees from Radford University. After practicing in public accounting, she returned to academia and earned her PhD in Accounting from the University of Alabama. Michele is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in Virginia.

As Associate Dean, Michele oversees the college’s curriculum, accreditation, and finances. She loves teaching and interacting with students. She is also an accomplished researcher, presenting her work at many national and international conferences and publishing over 30 articles in referred journals with a special interest in pedagogical issues.

Michele has served the accounting profession through her leadership roles in the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). The IMA is one of the most respected associations for practicing accounting and finance professionals, with over 140,000 members worldwide. In 2019, she served as Chair of the IMA’s Ohio Regional Council. In 2020, she joined the ICMA Board of Regents, the governing body responsible for the CMA and CSCA certifications.
