DR. ALAN R. MICIAK joined John Carroll University as dean of the John M.
and Mary Jo Boler School of Business in 2015. As a management
educator Dr. Miciak promotes the development of next generation leaders
equipped to integrate a traditional business education within a broader
environmental, societal, and ethical context in which today’s businesses
find themselves.
Dr. Miciak has always placed priority on innovative programs including the
introduction of the “Sustainability MBA” program at Duquesne University in
Pittsburgh. On the strength of his efforts he was named as one of the “100
Most Influential People in Finance” by Treasury and Risk Magazine in
2008.
He began his business career with Unisys Corporation in Detroit where he
was involved with national accounts marketing for the industrial and
commercial systems division. He earned his MBA at the University of
Toledo and received his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Graduate
School of Management at Kent State University.
In 1993, he joined the Faculty at the Haskayne School of Business at the
University of Calgary, Canada, where he was director of the Executive
MBA program. In 2002, he was appointed dean of the Sobey School of
Business at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Canada, where they became
the first AACSB Accredited Business School in the Maritime Provinces. He
served as dean of the AJ Palumbo School of Business Administration at
Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, from 2005-20013.
