Job Summary:
USF is a forward-leaning institution that is currently investing in the growth of its fundraising capacity. We recently successfully completed a $300M capital campaign and have launched into a new campaign for $500M. The next five years will be especially transformative as increased investments in staffing prepare the Development division for a substantial comprehensive campaign. Reporting to the Sr. Director, Principal Gifts, will help develop and manage the principal gifts pipeline, shaping the big ideas to attract transformative philanthropy, and working closely with colleagues to secure principal gifts.
There are more than 1,900 identified campaign prospects rated $1 million+, and over 800 of them are categorized as having a high likelihood of making a major gift to USF.
The Director of Development, Principal Gifts will coordinate the fundraising strategy for gifts of $500K or more. In addition, the Director of Development, Principal Gifts will manage a portfolio of approximately 80 prospects and secure support from donors capable of making gifts of $250,000+ with a yearly personal goal of at least $1 million in the first year, and increasing after that.
This role will manage an Assistant director of Development, Principal Gifts.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
60% Principal Gifts Fundraising
Build and carry an active portfolio of approximately 80 prospective donors.
Develop principal gift priorities and increase engagement with high-net worth individuals.
Makes at least 6-8 significant prospect/donor visits per month. Cultivates and solicits current use and endowment gifts directly, including proposal development. Conducts 20 solicitations a year.
30% Leadership, Management and Collaboration
Supervises and coaches Assistant Director to achieve individual fundraising goals.
Helps ensure that fundraising dollar goals and deadlines are met for all principal gifts the university solicits.
Participate in goal setting, writing proposals,and implementing stewardship plans for principal level donors. Collaborate, coordinate and communicate with faculty, university leaders, and other development staff.
In close collaboration with Prospect Development & Analytics, leads Principal Gifts reporting in Salesforce, maintaining an active collection of the most useful reports, and helping to develop new reports as needed
10% Volunteer Management
Work with volunteer leaders to build and sustain a pipeline of principal-level donors, including trustees, campaign committee and board members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of progressive and successful development experience in major gifts, preferably in higher education.
Proven ability to close gifts of $250,000 and above
Flexible and nimble attitude reflecting the spirit of experimentation in a role that is new to the university and will be dynamic in focus.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including proposal writing and the ability to deliver a compelling case for support.
Demonstrated effectiveness in working with high-net worth individuals, including prospect identification, relationship building, solicitation, and stewardship.
Superior interpersonal and listening skills and the proven ability to collaborate as well as build strong working relationships with colleagues across the campus to achieve fundraising results.
Commitment to appropriate use of sensitive, confidential constituent data and familiarity with relevant privacy laws.
Ability to travel and work weekend/evening hours.
