Position Summary

To ensure by visual presence, reduce criminal activity on campus, in campus lot and building, and during university events. 
To monitor and improve parking on campus by enforcing university parking rules and regulations. 
To provide requested services as it relates to Public Safety and management of the building. 
To understand the responsibilities of being role models to students on the campus. 
To properly secure all areas of the building including the classrooms, labs, clinic, and common areas. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

1. Ensure building and interior rooms are locked and unlocked at appropriate time(s). 

2. Act as a monitor for Facility Operations, to include, but not limited to:

Manage any urgent facility situations, such as: spills, overflowing trash cans, plumbing fixtures with a stuck valve, plugged toilets, elevator resets, replacing damaged ceiling tile, etc.
Perform classroom setups to ensure furniture remains in the correct place. 
Monitor that snow removal and landscaping services are performed adequately. Spread rock salt as needed on icy walkways.
Monitor trash picking and poking throughout and around the exterior of the building.
Monitor scheduled HVAC maintenance, dumpster pickup, fire alarm and suppression testing, emergency generator maintenance, light bulb replacement, window cleaning, etc.
Perform checks of fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, exit lighting, AED Monthly Checks, Alarm System Checks, etc. 
Take initial incident and accident reports. Provide pertinent information to the necessary responding agencies, Detroit Mercy Department of Public Safety and/or the Novi Police or Fire Departments. 

3. Inspect perimeter, building and interior rooms reporting all safety and security problems, and complete Detroit Mercy Facility Operations Work Request when necessary. 

4.  Enforce University rules and regulations, and report the violations to the proper authority. 

5. Act as a monitor for University Services, to include but not limited to: Complete minor classroom cleaning between classes, if needed.Render assistance to people as circumstances necessitate. Perform motorist assist, such as lockouts and jump start, when requested. Perform general security function and provide eyes and ears. Report incidents requiring police, fire, or emergency medical response immediately. 

6. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.


Minimum Qualifications

Experience – Six months to two years of similar or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Education – (1) A two-year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Efficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Teams, and Excel.

Physical Requirements

Job requires repetitively lifting lightweight objects where frequent bending or stooping alternates with lighter activities. 

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions or light industrial settings.
