Job Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant is trained to handle both clerical and clinical duties under the direct supervision of the SHS Director and SHS clinical providers.

These duties include but are not limited to:
-direct patient care to include obtaining vital signs and lab specimens,
-injections
-chart documentation
-assisting providers as needed
-front office duties
-inventory management of supplies
-oversight of university immunization tracking

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical:
Safely implements a wide range of basic medical and clerical skills

Prepares patients for examination by clinical providers (measure and records vital signs,
height and weight, vision screening)

Maintains smooth and timely patient flow

Assists providers with in-office procedures

Obtains and prepares specimens for laboratory testing

Performs routine venipuncture for blood specimen testing

Performs SHS laboratory procedures per CLIA rules and regulations

Keeps accurate lab records and adheres to OSHA and Employee Health Standards

Clean, stock and prepare examination rooms

Provides routine information related to medical treatments and procedures

Assists in scheduling patients for diagnostic procedures or transportation to UC/ER

Demonstrates patient advocacy, assuring patient’s rights to privacy, safety and

confidentiality

Maintains medical equipment maintenance and sterility

Administers vaccinations per standing orders

Places and reads PPD’s

Performs all other duties as assigned by Director

Immunization data entry and oversight of university immunization compliance

Submits university immunization summary to the state of Colorado

Maintains MSDS

Completes laboratory order forms

Retrieves laboratory test results

Orders and maintains inventory supply (medical, pharmaceutical and vaccination)

Supports front office staff as needed

Assists with purging and shredding of medical charts

Manages expired pharmaceutical medications and medical supplies

Coordinates logistics for influenza and PPD clinics (forms, supplies and tracks statistics)

Scans patient paperwork into electronic medical record

Updates and creates relevant standard operating procedures

Verifies charges or lab or radiology work

Uses EMR to enter necessary information for billing and patient record

Performs all other duties as assigned by Director

 

Other Requirements:
Maintain current BLS CPR certification

Maintain current Medical Assistant certification

Maintain strict patient confidentiality

Demonstrated written and oral communication skills

Ethical competence and interest in remaining professionally up to date

Professional demeanor in the health center, on-campus and in the community

Works professionally as a team member and with campus collaborators

Demonstrated written and oral communication skills

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Experience and Education:
Completion of a certified Medical Assistant program required.

Current Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card

Demonstrated phlebotomy skills

Proficiency in medical office assisting.

Experience in ambulatory care setting

 

Work Schedule: This position is 0.85 FTE and is benefit-eligible.

Academic Year Schedule: August 15 – May 15 – 8:30 am to 5 pm Monday thru Friday

Summer Months: May 16 – August 14 – 8:30 am to 5 pm Tuesday and Wednesday(days of week subject to change)

Vacation Time: Accrued vacation time may only be taken with the advanced approval of
the Director of Student Health Services

Pay Rate:
$20.42 – $23.20 hour with qualifications.
