Job Summary:
Regis University seeks an instructional designer to join the Instructional Design and Technology (ID&T) department team. The ideal candidate will be a highly collaborative individual with a commitment to attaining the university’s mission through integration of the Six Key Jesuit Values in the important work of instructional design, course development, emerging technologies, and use of the University’s learning management system.
The instructional designer (ID) works collaboratively with faculty/Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and the ID&T team for course design and development that will enhance student learning. IDs support course design efforts for all course formats, including but not limited to, online, blended or web enhanced. They promote the use of evidence-based practices as well as innovative uses of learning technology for teaching and learning. A qualified candidate will have project management skills and will be self-motivated with the demonstrated ability to work independently and take appropriate initiative. A qualified candidate will also have strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Course Design and Development (60%)
Cultivates collaborative and professional working relationships with faculty, content experts and other members of the design and development team in the design of learning experiences and engaging learning material for any course format.
Manages the course design project from start to finish, including timelines and arranging meetings.
Implements innovative approaches and strategies in the course design process to address teaching and learning challenges.
Evaluates and assesses the effective use of instructional technologies to identify opportunities for improvement in online, blended, and web-enhanced courses.
Faculty Support (30%)
Provides instructional design support and services including course consultation, course or program design, course evaluation, course related training etc.
Consults with faculty in the use of pedagogies, best practices, and instructional technologies that support student learning in any course format.
Researches, evaluates, and assists with the implementation of best practices for teaching and learning with technology.
Outreach and Other Duties (10%)
Develops presentations and training that promote the use of best practices for teaching and learning strategies.
Teach or co-teaches at minimum one college level online course once every 2 years.
Other duties as assigned, e.g. university task forces, committees, and special projects (non-course projects that support academic or administrative needs.)
Engages in the department’s quality improvement efforts.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Master’s degree in instructional design or related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in instructional design with significant work in instructional design.
Solid understanding of learning theory, instructional design theory, and effective online pedagogy.
Familiarity with HTML and the ability to develop course content with authoring tools such as Dreamweaver.
Experience working in learning management systems (LMS).
Project management skills, ability to concurrently manage and organize multiple projects.
Ability to conceptualize innovative ideas and solutions.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Experience incorporating skills such as digital literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity and collaboration into teaching and learning.
Experience developing course content employing universal design, accessibility, and ADA compliance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Multimedia or educational technology experience desired in higher education
A desire to continually upgrade knowledge and ability as part of a leading online learning unit in a fast growing and developing field.
Competence with Adobe Creative Suite applications and a wide variety of instructional design and development tools (e.g. Articulate Storyline, Captivate, Camtasia, audio/video, web conferencing tools, etc.)
Experience in online teaching and/or learning in higher education
Familiarity with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
Sense of humor
Working Conditions:
Standard office working environment. Prolonged periods of sitting and standing and viewing of computer monitor may be necessary.
