Job Summary:

Founded in 1877, Regis University is one of 28 Jesuit, Catholic colleges and universities in the United States and the only Jesuit University in the Rocky Mountain West. Regis University seeks an instructional designer to join the Instructional Design and Technology (ID&T) department team. The ideal candidate will be a highly collaborative individual with a commitment to attaining the university’s mission through integration of the Six Key Jesuit Values in the important work of instructional design, course development, emerging technologies, and use of the University’s learning management system, Brightspace by D2L

 

The instructional designer (ID) works collaboratively with faculty/Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and the ID&T team for course design and development that will enhance student learning. IDs support course design efforts such as the innovative Course Reimagining Program that focuses on a contemporary learning experience; student engagement; and faculty presence and interaction. IDs support all learning modalities, including but not limited to, online, blended, and hybrid. They promote the use of evidence-based practices as well as innovative uses of learning technology for teaching and learning. A qualified candidate will have refined project management skills and will be self-motivated with the demonstrated ability to work independently and take appropriate initiative. A qualified candidate will also have strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

 

Each candidate will be asked to share a portfolio of learning experiences they have designed and developed.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Course Design and Development (60%)

 

• Cultivates collaborative and professional working relationships with faculty, content experts, and other members of the design and development team as they design engaging learning experiences.

 

• Manages multiple course design projects simultaneously including, but not limited to, development of project plans, arranging meetings for the design team, and designing learning activities/objects.

 

• Implements innovative approaches and strategies in the course designs to address teaching and learning challenges.

 

• Evaluates and assesses the effective use of instructional practices and technologies to identify opportunities for improvement of online, blended, and web-enhanced courses.

 

Faculty Support (30%)

 

• Consults with faculty in the use of pedagogies, best practices, and instructional technologies that support student learning in any course format.

 

• Investigates, evaluates, and assists with the implementation of best practices for teaching and learning with technology.

 

• Designs and facilitates professional development regarding teaching and design practices, and the application of instructional technologies for teaching and learning.

 

Outreach and Other Duties (10%)

 

• Develops learning experiences and resources that fall outside of course design.

 

• Engages in the department’s continuous improvement efforts.

 

• Other duties as assigned, e.g. university task forces, committees, and special projects (non-course projects that support academic or administrative needs).

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

• Bachelor’s degree in education or related discipline.

 

• Comprehensive knowledge of learning theory, instructional design theory, and effective online pedagogy.

 

• Proven ability to include inclusive practices in course designs.

 

• Experience developing course content employing universal design, accessibility, and ADA compliance.

 

• Ability to conceptualize ideas presented by a subject matter expert and design innovative solutions for operationalizing them in a course.

 

• Experience incorporating skills such as digital literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity and collaboration into teaching and learning.

 

• Project management skills, ability to concurrently manage and organize multiple projects.

 

• Professional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

 

• Experience in implementing multimedia or educational technologies within online and on-ground learning experiences. desired in higher education.

 

• Facilitation of faculty professional development via Zoom and on-ground.

 

• Experience adding content in learning management systems (LMS) as well as using other tools within the LMS.

 

• Competence with a wide variety of instructional design and development tools as well as educational technologies (e.g. H5P, Genially, Canva, VoiceThread, Yellowdig, Asana, MS Teams, Articulate Storyline, Captivate, Camtasia, etc.).

 

• Familiarity with HTML and the ability to develop course content with authoring tools.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Advanced degree or certificate in instructional design.

 

• Minimum of three years of experience in instructional design Experience working in higher education.

 

• A desire to continually upgrade knowledge and ability as part of a leading online learning unit in a fast growing and developing field.

 

• Experience in online teaching and/or learning in higher education.

 

• Sense of humor.

 

Working Conditions:

 

Standard office working environment. Prolonged periods of sitting and standing and viewing of computer monitor may be necessary.

Pay Rate:

$61,950 /annually
