Job Summary:

Reporting to the Dean of the School of Pharmacy (SOP), the Director of Business Development will be responsible for accessing market trends that inform the development and implementation of growth strategies and innovative methods to advance the SOP. This role will be charged with identifying, establishing and stewarding strategic partnerships, collaborations and joint ventures with the public and private sectors to enhance the SOP’s financial sustainability, and position it as a respected leader in developing competent graduates who meet workforce demands. This role requires a dynamic individual with a proven track record in business development and relationship building. Prior experience in, or understanding of the higher education or healthcare industry, is required.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:


Key Responsibilities:


• Conduct an initial and annual thereafter, pharmacy industry market analysis, including healthcare trends and job demands to ensure the SOP makes data-driven decisions.


• Identify key decision makers in industries that employ pharmacists and conduct key stakeholder interviews to assess major factors driving growth and barriers in the pharmacy field.


• Keep abreast of industry trends, market dynamics and emerging opportunities to ensure the SOP trains students for a broad range of employment opportunities and provide quarterly updates.


• Prepare a comprehensive market analysis report to inform leadership in the School of Pharmacy and Rueckert Hartman College for Health Professions (RHCHP).


• In collaboration with the RHCHP Director of Major Gifts, identify and evaluate collaborative and fundraising opportunities with potential partners including: chain pharmacies; pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, healthcare organizations; research institutions; and other relevant stakeholders.


• In partnership with the RHCHP Director of Admissions, identify, establish, cultivate and manage relationships with pre-pharmacy advisors and programs, high schools, colleges and community organizations. Identify effective and innovate approaches that enhance pharmacy recruitment efforts.


• Represent the SOP at University graduate and career fairs and pharmacy and health industry conferences and events to maximize recruiting opportunities.


• In collaboration with the RHCHP Director of Research and Policy, identify and establish collaborations to support grant applications and student internships.


• In partnership with the Director of Alumni Engagement and SOP Assistant Dean for Student Affairs (ADSA), strengthen alumni relations, and long-term engagement opportunities.


• Establish and foster relationships that generate financial and partnership investments in the SOP. Collaborate with the Dean and other stakeholders to ensure all collaborations and partnership objectives are aligned with the SOP’s strategic goals.


• Facilitate communication between internal departments and external partners to ensure successful project execution.


• Work closely with the legal department to negotiate contracts and agreements.


• Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of business development efforts.


• Provide regular updates to the Dean and prepare quarterly reports outlining progress.


• Other duties as assigned.




• A minimum of 5 years of experience in business development, enrollment management, advancement or a related field, preferably in the chain pharmacy, healthcare, biopharmaceutical or higher education industry.


• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; an advanced degree (e.g. MBA, PharmD) is a plus.


• A high degree of flexibility and adaptability, and excellent time management skills.


• Proven track record of successful partnership development.


• Strong negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills.

Pay Rate:

$75,000-90,000/annually commensurate with qualifications
