Job Description:

The STEP Director will be responsible for the administration, oversight, and coordination of Le Moyne College’s Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) program. Both programs provide a broad range of services to students to increase access by minority or disadvantaged students to academic programs that prepare students either for licensure in the professions or for employment in scientific and technical fields. 

This position is funded by external sources and is contingent on the continued receival of those funds. 

Job duties specific to this position: 

  • The Director is responsible for initiating and maintaining strong working relationships with Syracuse City School District personnel, community leaders, parents, Le Moyne College personnel, as well as State Education Department liaisons and personnel from other STEP programs.
    Serve as the main point of contact with the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and ensure the program remains compliant with NYSED guidelines.
  • Oversee all functions and activities of STEP, including policy and program development and overseeing supportive services provided to students.
  • Providing training and direct supervision for staff and performing staff evaluations as appropriate for STEP student tutors and college student interns.
  • Maintain records and support data used for state and institutional programmatic reports.
  • Develop, oversee and manage the program budget.
    Perform regular assessments of program outcomes, student satisfaction, and retention. Implement changes and improvements as necessary.
  • Planning and coordinating student events, professional development workshops, internships, research, and other learning opportunities for 68 (+) students.
  • Collaborating with university leadership, academic departments, faculty, and external partners to build the STEP program.
  • Monitoring student progress and implementing appropriate academic service intervention and other strategies to assist in student success for 68 (+) students.
  • Work with Academic Departments and Admissions to organize the recruitment process and participate in recruitment events.
  • Provide counseling to students on academic, financial, social, and other matters while maintaining knowledge and sensitivity towards the academic, economic, social, cultural, and other needs of STEP students.
  • Be the point of contact and liaison with faculty and department chairs to ensure students are receiving necessary support.

  • Performs a variety of related duties as assigned.

 Requirements:

  • Master’s degree. 
  • Two years of experience in program administration in the areas of academic support services, counseling, opportunity programs, or a related field.
    A strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success.
  • Experience in fiscal management and budgetary oversight; experience with grant-funded programs is a plus.
  • Experience working with students from underrepresented or economically disadvantaged groups at a comprehensive undergraduate institution with a focus on student success and outcomes
  • Possess a strong advising background, including experience advising and developing programming for domestic students of color coming from major metropolitan areas.
  • The ability to participate in specific weekend and evening events during the academic year is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

Salary Range: $60,000-$70,000 annually
