Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY                                                                     

The Associate Director will identify, cultivate, and solicit philanthropic support from private foundations, corporations, and government entities for Le Moyne. The Associate Director will take the lead in researching new partnerships with foundations and corporations and stewarding existing relationships with partners/donors. The Associate Director will be a mission-driven individual, eager to work with Le Moyne administrative and faculty colleagues, foundations, corporations, and public entities to advance College priorities. He/she will demonstrate initiative, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively on tasks. Superior initiative and work ethic, bias to act, creativity and curiosity, and strong writing skills are necessary.


Job duties specific to this position:

  • Identifying strategic opportunities and establishing priorities with faculty and other partners.
  • Developing a pool of prospective grant donors through ongoing research.
  • Developing, writing, reviewing and refining proposals and other materials, including letters of inquiry, reports, and briefings, to enhance private gift or grant support for priority initiatives.
  • Assisting with the development of competitive program and project ideas, particularly ‘big ideas’ that cross multiple departments and priority areas.
  • Recording and tracking all grant activity using the College’s prospect-management and tracking system.
    Preparing and maintaining a two-year planning schedule of grant opportunities, submission deadlines, reporting deadlines for active grants, strategy reports, meeting agendas.
    Seeking appropriate training and professional development opportunities and providing training, as needed, for faculty, staff and volunteers in fundraising best practices.
  • Preparing an annual work plan and progress reports and completing an annual performance self-assessment to evaluate progress toward goals.
  • Managing a stewardship program for corporate and private foundations that will include deadlines for reports, thank-you letters, and other correspondence from campus colleagues, including the president of the college.
  • Providing support to the Director in arranging and managing campus visits and stewardship events for corporate and foundation representatives and for scheduling on- and off-campus meetings.
  • Serving as the primary Government, Foundations, and Corporate Relations liaison with the College’s finance group regarding budgets and financial reports.
  • Providing strategic counsel to the Director, faculty and staff, executing and managing quality control for stewardship of large, complex grants and projects. Reviewing conditions and terms of grants awards, completing grant outcomes and communicating grant fulfillment requirements to relevant faculty and staff, and continuously analyzing progress towards stated goals and expenditures to ensure grant compliance and completion within grant timeframe in collaboration with the offices of Academic Affairs and Finance.
  • Occasional attendance at evening and weekend events is required.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
    3+ of progressively responsible experience in institutional advancement, preferably with experience in corporate and foundation relations, higher education or health care.
  • Ability to navigate efficiently the online grant application systems (such as Grants.gov and Research.gov) used by public funding sources, as well as those used by foundations and other private funding sources.
  • Ability to work independently, problem solve, take initiative, set priorities and handle multiple projects efficiently and effectively, while representing the mission, vision, and values of Le Moyne.
  • Demonstrate creativity, organizational ability, strong attention to detail and ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations.
  • Demonstrate ability to build and maintain positive relationships; put the team and organizational goals above individual goals, actively contribute as a member of various working teams and manage strong collaborative partnerships with diverse colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidences and protect confidential information is absolutely essential; acts in a selfless manner and models ethical values of Le Moyne.

  • He/she must be a collaborative and team-oriented individual; demonstrate sound judgment when dealing with a wide range of relationships and situations; possess the ability to maintain enthusiasm for hard work, changing priorities, and multiple deadlines; and have the ability to interact well with a diverse community of faculty, students, and constituents.
  • Convene working groups for institutional priorities, both internally and externally. Initiate opportunities for faculty and administrators to interact with corporate and foundation prospects and interpret corporate and foundation interest to Le Moyne constituencies.
  • Proven sense of humor and ability to have fun.
  • Become a subject matter expert in key areas and develop a strong working knowledge of the history, current goals, priorities, and strengths of the College
