Head Coaching Instructor, Esports Club

In collaboration with club officers and JCU Recreation administration, the Head Coaching Instructor, Esports Club will direct, instruct, and administer the John Carroll University Esports Club. This position provides coaching instruction, administrative support, and advisement to student leaders and other members of the club to help accomplish their goals and further the mission of the university. They are also responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable university, department, league/conference, and national governing body regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Coach, instruct, and advise an Esports club of 50-100 members
Design and implement training and practice programs throughout the academic year, including during university breaks, as needed
Assess gaming skills and abilities, and give constructive and technical feedback
Attend and oversee 2-3 weekly practices on JCU’s campus
Travel with club to off-campus games, tournaments, and events
Oversee tech, audio/visual, and operational needs of JCU Esports Lounge
Assist club officers with recruiting new members and planning recruitment events
Assist club officers with planning and organizing a yearly competition schedule
Assist club officers with fundraising, community service, and alumni outreach efforts
Assist club officers with club budget and financial planning
Assist club officers with purchases, gameday operations, and travel arrangements
Act as a liaison between the club and the club’s leagues and governing bodies
Attend all required JCU Club Sports coaches trainings and meetings
Uphold mission, vision, and values of university and department at all times
Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
1-3 years of relevant experience in competitive Esports and/or Esports coaching
Valid driver’s license and ability to become CPR/AED & First Aid certified within one (1) month of hire
Ability to commit to a full academic year (August-May)
Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work independently

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience playing Esports and/or coaching at the high school or collegiate level
Demonstrated ability to motivate college students in a positive manner
Demonstrated ability to plan and organize effectively, and teach fundamentals and techniques associated with sport
Demonstrated ability to provide positive leadership and serve as a role model

Physical Requirements :
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other office locations and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
