The vibrant arts ecosystem at The College of the Holy Cross encompasses a range of academic arts departments and programs which together produce dozens of events per semester; the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Art Gallery, known for traveling, loan, and permanent collection exhibitions as well as site-specific works; and the brand-new multi-venue Prior Performing Arts Center, whose programming features cutting-edge visiting artists, departmental performances, Cantor Gallery events, and events by student organizations and other campus and community partners. The Arts Marketing and Communications Manager serves the full spectrum of this ecosystem in ways both broad and deep. This position develops and manages integrated marketing and communication efforts from planning through execution and evaluation in a fast-moving, mission-driven environment; ensures the implementation and quality of strategies that promote, brand, and sell the creative and performing arts at Holy Cross; supports alignment with College-wide marketing and communications strategy; and serves as a public-facing representative of The Prior and The Cantor in planning and conducting various forms of campus and community outreach. In working to launch The Prior as a major venue in the region, highlight the ongoing work of The Cantor, and bring new recognition and audiences to the College’s arts departments and programs, this position uplifts the identities of the respective arts units while also promoting a coherent, galvanizing vision of the arts at Holy Cross. Directed by the Prior Performing Arts Center Executive Director, this role will have dotted line reporting to the Senior Director of Strategic Marketing in College Marketing and Communications as well as to unit leads for arts departments and programs (Cantor, Creative Writing, Music, Theatre & Dance, and Visual Arts). Essential Duties Marketing.
• Manages and executes an integrated overall marketing strategy for The Prior, The Cantor, and the academic arts departments and programs with a strong emphasis on digital marketing initiatives, including but not limited to the management of the units’ websites, photos and digital assets, social media, direct mail and display advertising campaigns.
• Works with Holy Cross Marketing and Communications designers as well as independently with brand templates to produce high-quality creative assets for digital and print, including programs, brochures, posters, and signage.
• Designs and executes strategies to drive audiences and create ticket sales, including through impactful promotional campaigns for a range of purposes and audiences; intentional collaboration and outreach activities; and other means.
• Evaluates and reports on marketing campaign metrics, web traffic, and other forms of audience engagement.
• Ensures consistent look and tone for all communications, including written content, website and social media in keeping with guidelines and standards.
• Manages collaborations with printers, video producers, and photographers.
• Plans, coordinates, and participates in in-person promotional events and activities.
• Works closely with The Prior’s Operations Manager, who oversees ticketing for The Prior, on marketing issues pertaining to audience experience.
• Creates and manages internal and external communications for The Prior, The Cantor, and the academic arts departments and programs.
• Creates compelling stories and messages that articulate the artistic and educational vision and mission of arts stakeholders.
• Plans, writes, and edits print and digital materials such as press releases, blog articles, website and calendar updates, newsletter articles, patron communications, and social media.
• Works with the Executive Director of The Prior and the Director of The Cantor to create written informational materials and presentations on the performing arts center and gallery and to conceive, draft, write, and/or edit content for grant applications, event programs, community outreach, and other materials as required.
• Collaborates with Holy Cross Marketing and Communications, the academic arts departments and programs, and the Office of Student Involvement to create opportunities to develop and publicize stories that link and promote the College’s diverse array of arts activities across campus and to the broader public.
Community and Media Relations.
• Serves as a public-facing representative of The Prior and The Cantor for local community partners and for on- and off-campus audiences, including at both on- and off-site events.
• Often working closely with Executive Director of The Prior, the Director of The Cantor, and the Prior’s Manager of Artistic and Outreach Initiatives, this position conceives of, plans, and participates in opportunities for the campus and greater Worcester community to engage with the center and the arts at Holy Cross.
• Working with the Holy Cross Marketing and Communications Director of Public Relations, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with media representatives on behalf of The Prior, The Cantor, and the academic arts departments and programs. Develops and executes public relations strategy, output, and performance for the performing arts center with the goal of increasing media impressions in on-campus, local, national, industry-specific, and alumni media.
• Collaborates with a wide range of internal and external constituents with a goal to strengthen and diversify participation of key target audiences, both on- and off-campus, in Prior Performing Arts Center, Cantor, and academic arts department programming.
• Provides staffing support for Prior Performing Arts Center and Cantor Gallery programming as needed.
• Hires, trains, and supervises student workers as needed to assist in producing copy and other marketing and communications materials.
• Participates as a mentor in Prior Performing Arts Center and Cantor Gallery student worker training program.
• Builds and strengthens collaborative and supportive working relationships between The Prior Performing Arts Center, The Cantor, and other Holy Cross departments, programs, and units.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and four years of experience in website design, production, marketing, project management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in developing communications for a range of media with an emphasis on digital marketing strategies, platforms, and application; and working with creative professionals in design, photography, and/or video.
• Proficiency with digital marketing tools, graphic design/illustrator software, and office software applications.
• Working knowledge of ad layout and graphic design.
• Strong demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively, flexibly, and comfortably with a large number of faculty, staff, students, interns, community members, guest artists, other professionals, and audiences representing a wide diversity of personalities and cultures.
• Outstanding oral and written communication skills. Proven editorial skills across multiple media such as print, web, and social media.
• Strongly proven ability to manage and prioritize complex workload in a calm and professional manner.
• A passion for arts and culture and a demonstrated ability to prioritize curiosity and creativity in their work.
• An attitude of service, a commitment to ongoing learning, and desire to contribute to the organization and the community.
• Experience in marketing and communications within the arts in particular.
• Experience with public relations within the arts in particular.
• This position is a hybrid remote/in-person position. On in-person days, the Arts Marketing and Communications Manager will be embedded within the Holy Cross Marketing and Communications office.
• Given the typical event schedule of the performing arts center, this role will at times require work at night and on the weekends to staff Prior and Cantor events.
• Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
• Must be able to lift, move, and/or carry equipment and furniture weighing up to 50lbs.
