About Us:
The Boston College Connell School of Nursing is committed to groundbreaking research in nursing, healthcare, public health. Dr. Petreca’s team is seeking a talented Data Scientist to join our research team and contribute to the success of a grant-funded project.

Job Description:
As a Data Scientist on our research grant project, you will play a crucial role in harnessing the power of data to drive innovation and uncover insights that contribute to the achievement of our research objectives. While a graduate degree is not required for this position, relevant certifications and hands-on experience in data science are essential. You will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting complex datasets to support research activities and contribute to the overall success of the grant project.

Responsibilities:
●Data Collection and Integration: Collect, aggregate, and integrate data from various sources, including databases, external APIs, and research instruments, to create comprehensive datasets for analysis.
●Data Preprocessing: Clean, transform, and preprocess data to ensure data quality and suitability for analysis. Handle missing values, outliers, and data inconsistencies.
●Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA): Perform EDA to understand data characteristics, identify patterns, and visualize insights using appropriate tools and techniques.
●Statistical Analysis: Apply statistical methods to analyze data, test hypotheses, and generate research insights. Utilize techniques such as regression analysis, hypothesis testing, and advanced statistical modeling as needed.
●Machine Learning: Develop and implement machine learning models to address research questions, predict outcomes, and extract valuable information from data.
●Data Visualization: Create informative and visually appealing data visualizations and reports to communicate research findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
●Collaboration: Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary research teams, including scientists, analysts, and domain experts, to define research questions, objectives, and methodologies.
●Model Validation: Evaluate and validate machine learning models, ensuring their accuracy, robustness, and generalization to real-world scenarios.
●Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of data sources, methodologies, and analysis procedures to facilitate replication and transparency in research.
●Research Contributions: Contribute to research publications, reports, and grant deliverables by providing data-driven insights and analytical support.

Requirements

1. Education: Master’s or Ph.D. in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related disciplines, or equivalent work experience.
2. Skills: Proficiency in data analysis, machine learning, and programming (Python, R). Strong software development skills for prototyping and implementing data-driven solutions.
3. Data Tools: Strong data manipulation skills (Pandas, NumPy) and data visualization expertise.
4. Statistics: Ability to apply statistical tests and models. Familiarity with Bayesian statistics is a plus.
5. Big Data: Familiarity with big data technologies is a plus.
6. Problem-Solving: Critical thinking, problem-solving, and business acumen.
7. Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
8. Teamwork: Collaborative and able to lead data-related projects.
9. Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying current in the field.
10. Portfolio: Demonstrated experience through a portfolio of data science projects.
