Job Description

The Emerging Technology Analyst is responsible for the continual identification and evaluation of upcoming technologies that will provide ITS Support Services with a means to meet its client’s endpoint needs. This is a pivotal role dedicated to the ongoing review, assessment and communication of technology changes and upgrades impacting Boston College. The incumbent provides recommendations related to the acquisition and retirement of software and hardware assets. 

Emerging Technology Identification/Assessment:  As a member of the IT Asset Management team, this individual coordinates the lifecycle of widely used University software and operating systems to determine compatibility, identify end of life, and ensure compliance.  Working closely with stakeholders including ITS Support, Security, Systems, and the Business Office, this individual plans the rollout of new endpoint software by conducting and coordinating testing efforts, assisting with deployment automation, and escalating issues. This position is also a key contributor to endpoint hardware RFPs and is the point person for evaluating new technology devices that may be used at Boston College.

Reporting/Communication:  Proactively identifies opportunities for the utilization of new technology based upon the knowledge of client needs vs. merely serving as an information source.  Provides regular reports/updates on technology trends to Support Services management on the prevalence, utilization, effectiveness and implementation of new technology.  For example, considers the impact of new technology on our support team and provides input on any training and documentation needed to provide technical support to the user. Actively maintains ITS wiki space and suggests changes to BC Help web pages. Provides a regularly updated emerging technology roadmap that includes hardware and software support plans.

Advising/Technical Review:  Serves as a technical resource to ITS Support Services, particularly to the technology consultation organization.  Acts as a conduit between support and the infrastructure teams.  Recommends appropriate new technology to resolve immediate needs as well for strategic planning.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $75,150 to $93,950; salary commensurate with relevant experience.



Bachelor’s degree in a technology discipline preferred.
A minimum of four (4) years of progressive technology experience, working with client groups.
Prefer prior experience with the research of new technology, preferably in a higher education environment.
Strong interest in new technology and trends with the ability to relate concepts to practical application.
