Working at Regis University
As Regis employees, we embrace our Jesuit Catholic values of respect, inclusion and equity, and welcome employees, faculty and students from all faiths and cultures. Together, we perform our duties in alignment with the mission of the University and seek dedicated individuals to contribute to and strengthen that mission and our service to students.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
This will be an 8-week contract for an instructor in our Zoom-enabled synchronous classroom, teaching ~12 students from around the Global South and the US. This is a graduate-level course in the Master of Development Practice at Regis University. Instructor will have Affiliate Faculty status in Regis College.
This is not conventional distance learning but a highly interactive, live classroom.
This course has been built but the successful candidate will have the freedom to make changes and teach to their strengths.
Course Description:
This course explores concepts and methods of media development – that being, the evolution and change in the fields of news media, journalism and communication as a tool and sector of development practice. Such changes relate to a wide range of institutions, practices, and behaviors including the rule of law, freedoms of expression and press, education systems for journalists, business environments, capacities of journalists and managers, as well as support for a diversity of views in society. This evolution can be supported (or hindered) by donor support, private investment, or local processes of change led by media owners, managers, journalists, media industry associations, and other actors. Because the media are a key player in functioning democracies, it is critical not only to understand the role of media in development but in society.
Minimum Qualifications:
An advanced degree in a relevant discipline and field experience in a developing economy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five years teaching experience.
- Video-conference-enabled teaching experience a plus.
- Teaching in cross-cultural settings a plus.
Special Instructions to Applicants: Please submit a CV/resume, cover letter and list of references with your application. Inquiries can be made to Nina Miller, Program Director. nmiller004@regis.edu
Work Schedule:
Instructor location is immaterial, but the course meets live, from 7AM to 8:50AM Mountain Standard Time on Tuesdays and Fridays, from March 11, 2024 thru May 5th, 2024.
This position is benefits-eligible for workers’ compensation and will receive 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
Pay Rate:
$3,300 per class
