New Faculty Orientation

New Faculty Orientation is a full-day event designed to welcome new faculty members and introduce them to the mission, academic resources, and institutional culture of Loyola University New Orleans. The program features presentations by University leadership, faculty representatives, and key offices that support teaching, research, student success, and community engagement. Through sessions on academic policies, Title IX, accessibility, technology, and service learning, participants gain a foundational understanding of the University’s mission and identity, expectations, resources, and community values.

By the end of the orientation (and additional programming throughout the year), faculty should:

1. Understand Loyola’s Mission and Identity: Recognize how Jesuit values and the University’s mission shape teaching, scholarship, and service.
2. Connect with Key Leaders and Offices: Identify and establish initial relationships with University administrators, faculty governance representatives, and student support units.
3. Navigate Academic and Institutional Systems: Gain familiarity with essential tools and procedures, such as LORA Self-Service, academic policies, and accessible education practices.
4. Apply University Policies and Compliance Standards: Understand where to find academic policies, Title IX obligations, BIT reporting procedures, and cybersecurity expectations.
5. Integrate Student-Centered Practices: Learn about student demographics, advising structures, and resources available through the Student Success Center.
6. Explore Opportunities for Engagement: Discover avenues for service learning, international education, and library partnerships that enhance teaching and scholarship.
7. Begin Building Collegial Networks: Engage with peers and deans in college-specific sessions to foster community and collaboration within their academic units.
