New Employee Orientation (NEO) is a 6-month cohort-based program for new faculty and staff members at Loyola University New Orleans. It provides an opportunity for new staff and faculty to meet each other, form friendships, and learn more about the University via rotating leadership presentations (e.g. Advancement, Loyola University Police Department, Marketing & Communications, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and Mission & Identity). NEO is mandatory for staff and optional for faculty.
1. Enhance employee retention by creating regular opportunities for new staff and faculty to engage with senior leadership and learn directly from them about the goals and mission of the University’s divisions and the University as a whole. It also cultivates cross-division and cross-department relationships with other new employees throughout the University.
2. Enhance retention of information from online training for new employees. Integrating short, knowledge-based training provided directly by senior leadership helps employees retain the information they received through the online onboarding process and integrate it with their knowledge and understanding of the University structure and community.
3. Enhance employee understanding of University functions across campus. By integrating knowledge-based training in a social setting where questions are encouraged, new employees better understand functions outside their expertise and are better able to navigate the University community.
4. Create regular opportunities for new employees to interact with Human Resources personnel. New employees are encouraged to ask questions in a relaxed, social setting in order to build relationships and trust while enhancing their new employee experience.
