Ignatian Educators of Distinction
Marquette University’s “Ignatian Educators of Distinction” program recognizes and honors faculty and staff who exemplify a deep commitment to the Catholic, Jesuit educational mission. Marquette faculty and staff are committed to students’ holistic development in their curricular and co-curricular experiences.
Through sustained Mission Engagement study and practice, this group demonstrates both competence and dedication to animating Marquette’s mission of excellence, faith, leadership, and service. This distinction affirms their leadership in their faculty/staff roles for fostering a transformative learning environment.
Purpose: Marquette faculty and staff are dedicated to the Jesuit, Catholic educational mission. Becoming a Marquette Ignatian Educator is a campus and public recognition of a person’s commitment to and competence in animating the Jesuit tradition of academic excellence.
Standard: Original distinction is based on depth and time of engagement — dedicating approximately 20 hours in a one-year period to engaging in comprehensive education and/or scholarship on Jesuit identity, including pedagogy, spirituality, heritage, service, and retreat.
A cross-university team commits to a full year of service, including meeting monthly, to develop the distinction.
2025-26 is only the second year of the program. Mission and Ministry will have better assessment feedback following the next round of distinction applicants.
People who receive the distinction receive a pin at a luncheon held in February of each year. Applicants can receive the distinction more than once and apply in consecutive years to encourage continued engagement with Mission programing.
