First Year Faculty Ignatian Workshop

Short Program Description:

The First Year Faculty Ignatian Workshop seeks to help new faculty members learn about, and articulate, the Catholic and Jesuit values that inform the mission of The University of Scranton. This program is specifically designed to give each new faculty member a deep understanding of the Catholic and Jesuit ideals that animate their common work, and pedagogical material and insight to incorporate those values into their teaching and research. Monthly meetings organized around common readings, open discussion, and occasional extracurricular gatherings help participants develop a sense of community in their new professional home.

Program Goals/Intended Outcomes:

1. Offer new faculty members the opportunity and resources to learn about and engage with the University’s Catholic and Jesuit mission in their own distinct way.

2) Build community among participants, both in relation to their fellow first-year faculty members, and with a broader group of University employees.

3) Prepare new faculty to reflect on and articulate their work in service of the University’s mission in their annual evaluations and promotion applications.
