Canisius Faculty Fellows

Short Program Description:

The Canisius Faculty Fellows Program at Fairfield University was inaugurated in 2024-25 with a cohort of 8 participants (2025-26 has a cohort of 6). These Fellows propose a project that engages the Catholic Intellectual Tradition, particularly Catholic Social Teaching. They join Fairfield’s Presidential Seminar in the Catholic Intellectual Tradition, a larger group that meets for reading and discussion three times per semester, plus an additional set of meetings (three times per semester) to present their projects in process. Cohorts thus far have included faculty members from almost every department in the John Charles Meditz College of Arts and Sciences.

Program Goals/Intended Outcomes:

The program’s primary goal is to increase the awareness of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition among the faculty of the Meditz College. Faculty are encouraged to develop a project that will result in an article or book chapter, or a syllabus revision with a reflection.

Lessons Learned:

Program staff plan to do some re-designing for next year to accommodate a broader range of preparation for studying Catholic thought.
