Catholic Intellectual Tradition Seminar

Short Program Description:

The Bannan Forum of the Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education at Santa Clara University offers the Catholic Intellectual Tradition Seminar for faculty to explore the Catholic Intellectual Tradition (CIT) and its relationship to scholarship, service, and teaching. The Seminar deepens faculty knowledge and engagement with Santa Clara’s Jesuit, Catholic intellectual tradition as a reference point and resource for their work. In addition, faculty have the opportunity to explore the relationship between faith, reason, and culture in contemporary society. The Seminar enables faculty to meet across disciplines and schools, and to share in deep reflection and conversation.

Lessons Learned:

Changing the focus or topic of the Seminar on an annual basis has allowed Bannan Forum staff to draw in new faculty each year and speak to their specific research interests. Faculty have indicated that this makes the Seminar more relevant and engaging. Building cohorts that include as many schools/colleges as possible has also been a point of positive feedback.

88% of faculty participants agreed that “they were better able to see the connections between their own work and core principles in CIT, CST, and Jesuit education.”
