Arrupe Seminar

Short Program Description:

The Arrupe Seminar introduces faculty and staff at Fordham University to the lives of St. Ignatius of Loyola and his companions, as well as Ignatian spirituality and Jesuit higher education. Participants are invited to read and discuss texts from preeminent scholars of the Society of Jesus to inform their discussions. In-person presentations from members of Fordham’s Jesuit community, along with faculty and staff, create lively forums for participants to learn more about what it means to call Fordham a Jesuit university and how Fordham fits into the broader higher education landscape.

Program Goals/Intended Outcomes:

1. Introduce faculty/staff to St. Ignatius of Loyola and Jesuit education.
2. Foster discussion to relate to the teachings of St. Ignatius and identify ways to incorporate them into daily life/work.
3. Learn how to embody Ignatian ideals for the Fordham community.

Lessons Learned:

Program attendees have shared that they appreciate learning about the history of the Society of Jesus, and what drives the University’s mission. The program has evolved to provide more opportunity for continued conversation.
